Western Pygmy Possums are tiny, nocturnal marsupials with big eyes, rounded ears, and a long, finely scaled prehensile tail.

On Australian Wildlife Conservancy sanctuaries and partnership areas where Western Pygmy Possums are found, land management actions such as weed management, feral herbivore control, feral predator eradication and control and fire management are undertaken to protect important habitat and food sources. Removal of feral herbivores, including sheep, cattle, and rabbits, from sanctuaries helps support vegetation growth and restore flora that Western Pygmy Possums rely on for shelter and feeding. Fire is actively managed in sanctuaries and partnership areas to avoid large, intense fires, instead promoting a low-intensity fire regime that benefits vegetation.
