A considerable amount of research goes into each geographical area I examine for my informative colouring books. Currently, I am looking at the Murray-Darling Basin, an area that covers 14% of Australia’s landmass. I started with the IUCN Redlist species with over 7000 listings to go through in the Australian states and one territory that I could narrow down my search parameters to, adding common names where available resulting in 2654 Animalia, 2162 Plantae, Fungi listings …. now to work out which ones occur in the Murray-Darling Basin…. There are always some surprises though, and I am learning all the time! The IUCN Red List results only listed two birds for Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory. Kinda strange but maybe does not include all migratory or vagrant species?!?
